When Knowing the Answer Is Not Enough
In P2, parents may notice a gap between what their child can say and what they can put on paper. A pupil may speak fluently yet leave out important details in comprehension answers, switch tenses halfway through a story or write a list of actions without connecting them.
Our lessons help children understand why an answer works, use the language they have learnt and check their own work. We revisit mistakes through homework corrections, then reinforce these skills in general English and story writing practice.
The Primary 2 English Skills We Develop
Grammar and Vocabulary
Pupils practise choosing the correct tense, matching subjects and verbs, and using pronouns, prepositions and conjunctions accurately. Thematic vocabulary is applied in sentences and stories so new words become part of their writing.
Reading and Comprehension
Pupils learn to work out what a question asks, find relevant details and form a complete answer. Guided practice develops vocabulary in context, careful reading and simple inference instead of copying whole sentences without checking their meaning.
Sentence and Composition Writing
Children plan a story from a picture sequence, organise the main event and develop actions with suitable details. They practise writing a clear beginning, connected paragraphs and a meaningful ending while checking grammar and punctuation.
Discussion and Clear Expression
Discussion and guided responses give pupils practice explaining ideas before writing them down. They learn to listen to questions, give relevant answers and speak in complete sentences during class activities.
Building on the foundations introduced in our Primary 1 English programme, P2 lessons focus on using these skills more accurately and independently.

What Happens During a 90-Minute Lesson?
1. Homework Corrections
Homework is reviewed first. Pupils correct their errors and revisit difficult questions so that misunderstandings are addressed before moving on.
2. General English Practice
Pupils work on grammar, vocabulary and comprehension exercises to strengthen accuracy, understanding and application.
3. Story Writing Practice
Pupils practise planning and writing stories, with guidance on sentence construction, organisation, vocabulary and the development of ideas.

Small Classes and Closer Feedback
With a maximum of eight pupils, we can notice repeated errors, discuss how pupils reached an answer and give individual writing feedback. Each child has opportunities to participate and clarify misunderstandings.
Small-group teaching also makes it easier to see whether a child understands a correction and can use it in the next exercise. Clear routines and regular participation help pupils build more independent learning habits.
